Yesterday was an awesome day for the Dutch sport; two Olympic gold medals. The first and definitely the most inspirational medal went to Dutch swimmer Maarten van der Weijden who won the 10 km open water swim.
I don’t think I can think of anyone else who deserves a gold medal more than him. Seven years ago Maarten van der Weijden got diagnosed with leukemia and after spending 6 months in hospital he survived this horrible disease to come back and become the first Olympic champion on this new Olympic sport.
The second gold medal for Holland yesterday was sensational as well. The Dutch waterpolo girls surprised everyone when they kicked Italy out of the tournament in the quarter finals and reached the finals by beating the ever so strong team of Hungary in the semi-finals.
In the finals they had to play the world champions; the United States. In a very exiting sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat match the Dutch girls were victorious and grabbed the gold medal with a 9-8 score. No one expected Holland to get this far let alone win the Olympic tournament. But they worked so hard for it and they definitely deserved the win!

Just stumbled upon this funny quiz about Olympic sports. Turns out that I am Triathlon. I love watching triathlon and although I am sure I would be good at the swimming and bike riding part I would never be able to do the running because of my back problems. My absolute favorite sport all time to do is waterpolo!
You are Triathlon
In one word, you are simply amazing.
Super competent, super driven, and super skilled - you bring a lot to the table.
You rise to any challenge, and you enjoy challenging yourself.
What Olympic Sport Are You?

I am so into the Olympic games that I really don’t feel like blogging. I should be writing about the 0 balance transfer, but instead I am not. I am glued to the TV, soaking up all the emotions on the faces of the athletes. It doesn’t matter what sport it is - I don’t want to miss a thing! The only reason why I am on the internet is so I can check out what the Dutch athletes are doing. Australian TV is only showing what the Aussies are so doing so I need some extra info from the net. So until the the games are finished don’t expect too many posts from me…
Ps. Is it just me or does it seem like Michael Phelps is from another planet?

I am so freaking excited that I just have to share it with you. The Dutch women relay swimming team won Olympic gold on the 4×100m Freestyle.
I was cheering them on all the way and almost jumped through the roof when they finished and did my happy dance after they won the gold medal.
Marleen Veldhuis, Inge Dekker, Femke Heemskerk and Ranomi Kromowidjojo did a wonderful job this morning by beating the big nations in a thrilling finale. Congrats girls!!!

The Olympics are at our doorstep again. I have really been looking forward to it. I’ll be super glued to TV for the next couple of weeks. My favorite sports to watch are of course swimming and waterpolo. Now that I’m living in Australia I am cheering for two countries; both Holland and Australia. It’s giving me a bit of mixed feelings to be honest. Secretly I want the Dutchies to win.
Dutch swimmer Pieter v/d Hoogeband would like to write history by winning the 100 meter freestyle for the third time in a row. I hope he wins, but the competition is enormous. There are so many good swimmers. I think the Aussies will win a lot of gold medals, but I’m really hoping that some of the Dutch swimmers will get a medal too.
I can’t wait for the games to start. How awesome would it be to have home theater sconces and big screen TV set up for it? Oh well, I guess our own TV and couch will do…
Are you going to watch the Olympics and what is your favorite sport to watch?
