My hubby busted a pro

Lately I haven’t been playing poker as much as I like. We used to play lots of live tournaments, but ever since we moved to the town we live in now we only play very rarely live tournaments. My hubby however still plays a fair bit of poker online.

We have an account with Full Tilt Poker and not long ago my hubby had a professional poker player on his table and he busted him. Or in other words; kicked him out of the tournament. I thought that was pretty cool, especially because he also won that tournament.

Afterward he got an email from Full Tilt Poker saying that as a reward for busting a pro he also got his buy-in money back and they were going to send him a t-shirt. How cool is that?

Las Vegas dream…

Tonight is our poker night again. I thought I would be off the hook tonight because hubby had 8 teeth removed yesterday - but no - he still wants to go and play. Nothing can stop him from playing his poker game. Last week when we were on our way to the game I had to pull the car over because he had to spew. He was feeling sick, but wanted to play nevertheless.

One of his biggest dreams is to become a professional poker player. I guess he is in love with the high rollers lifestyle; staying in fancy Las Vegas hotels and playing in poker tournaments. I can understand that it seems like a very attractive lifestyle, but we simply don’t have the bankroll to go with it.

Personally I am pretty happy to just play the freebie tournaments and win booze or diner vouchers. Maybe one day when we have a bit more cash we can go to Las Vegas and play some poker there. For now he just gonna have to do with free tournaments and internet poker.

I won a poker tournament!

Friday was one of those days where I just wanted to cuddle up under a blanket and read a book or watch a movie. Breaking my favorite half a liter cup (that I use for tea), tripping over a Cat 5 cable, having to chase my cat down after he escaped from the house (twice) and lots of other clumsy stuff. At the end of the day I just had enough.

That’s when my partner wanted to play in a poker tournament up the coast. He’d been talking about it all week so I didn’t want to disappoint him and say no. I really didn’t feel like playing, but went just to please him. Poker has been a hobby of ours for a while now, but we haven’t played all that much since we moved down here.

The clumsiness continued though. We stopped on the way to have a bite somewhere and when we arrived at the poker event I noticed my handbag was missing so I had to drive back to where we had eaten. Fortunately nobody had taken my handbag as it was still laying on the floor at the table we sat at. Then when we returned at the poker event I had forgotten to turn off the lights of my car, but fortunately somebody warned me 15 minutes later.

It was fun to catch up with some of our old poker buddies and when I was there I was glad I came cause I had a lot of fun on the poker table. I decided to really listen to my instinct and made moves I didn’t understand myself but all of them paid off and I made the final table.

At the final table I was doing alright until the blinds got up real high. In one pot I had 2/3 of my stack in (because of the blinds) when someone went all in. I decided to call because of the pot odds. I lost the hand and was left with 1000 in chips while the rest had stacks of 50.000 and more. But I kept winning somehow and I managed to build my stack back up again.

Eventually I even ended heads up and I knew from there that I would win. I could read the guy I was heads up with so easily and I knew it was only a matter of time before I would take him out. My partner was more excited about me winning the tournament than I was.

How to have a free night out

Since me and my hubby are on a tight budget I am a sucker for all things free. We don’t have the money to go out clubbing or spend our money on a night at the movies. We do however have nights out where it doesn’t cost us anything.

Here in Australia there is a poker league called APL and you play FREE poker with them. It’s heaps of fun. I love playing and it’s a great way to meet new people. Usually does poker nights are held in clubs that have a pokies room. Most pokies room have espresso machines or machines with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. The clubs usually provide these drinks for free as an incentive for the people play the pokies machines a bit longer. Most of the times you even get a cookie with it too.

So, we play poker, get some drinks in the pokies room in the break and have a fun, free night out!
