Mind over matter

“There are no limits - Only in your imagination!”

The quote above is probably one of my favorite quotes. I once saw it printed on a t-shirt of a member of my water-polo club. That quote really hit me, because it is so true. When you limit yourself in your mind, you will never be able to achieve your goals. I think almost every body has limiting thoughts; I can’t do it, I can’t afford it, I’ll never lose the weight, that will never happen, etc. But the truth is that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.

Yesterday I read the perfect example of mind over matter in the newspaper. Would you consider having surgery without anaesthetics? I know that I would not even have to think about that one; there’s just no way! But 61 year old Alex Lenkei from Worthing England did it. He is a hypnotist by profession and he proofed that hypnotists are not a bunch of crooks. He hypnotised himself to undergo an 83-minute surgery on his hand. You can watch a video about it here. According to Mr. Lenkei he was aware of what was going on, but he did not feel any pain.

I think it is amazing. It just goes to show that our mind is the most powerful tool we have!

Pills or change of lifestyle?

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to lose the six kilo’s that I had gained in the last six months. I am very proud to say that I managed to lose those six kilo’s. To be honest I have lost another kilo, but the bad news is that the weight loss journey doesn’t end there. There are still many more kilo’s to go. But I am setting myself small goals. Losing those six kilo’s that I had gained recently was my first goal. The next goal is to lose another five.

Losing weight can be hard; you need to get your diet right, you need to exercise, etc. I see it more as a lifestyle change. I know why I have gained the weight; always too busy with taking care of other people and not having any time for myself to exercise. And no… I did not always eat right. According to the dietitian I was actually not eating enough and that’s why my metabolism had slowed down considerably.

So at the moment I am eating 5 or 6 meals a day and I try to exercise each day. I enjoy my new lifestyle, but sometimes I wish the weight came off much quicker. Aren’t we all a little bit impatient when it comes to that?  Sometimes I wonder if taking pills lipovox would really help. I know many people fall for diet pills, but I think you are cheating yourself when you take them. Sure, maybe you lose the weight a bit faster. But if you don’t change your lifestyle the weight will just creep back on.

Have you ever tried diet pills?

12000 Calories per day… Wonderful or a nightmare?

pizza'sDon’t we all wish that we could eat and eat and eat and not gain any weight? Or at least eat whatever we want and not worry about getting extra love handles?

I am proud of myself after losing six annoying kilo’s  and I know what hard work goes into it; lots of exercise and watching what you put into your mouth. So I am a little bit envious of the the following man although I would never want to eat as much as he does.

German man Heinz Asthoff from Offenbach is one of those people that does not have to worry about gaining weight. This man is eating 12000 calories per day and still weighs only 95 kilo’s with a length of 1.83 cm. Heinz, who is 68 years old, has been eating 12000 calories per day for the last 22 years. Ever since his wife died he has been eating all day long.

What’s on the menu?

  • 1 kilo cheese
  • 2.5 kilo potatoes
  • 12 eggs
  • 1 pot of mayonnaise
  • Pizza’s
  • Hot chips
  • 20 meat pies

Not the most healthy stuff and on top of that he smokes 2 packets of cigarettes per day. The doctors are clueless to what medical condition Heinz Ashoff has. And amazingly they have recommended the German to keep on smoking, because they worry that if he quits he might even start to eat more. And eating even more could be a financial disaster for the man, because he’s already spending more money on food than he’s getting with his pension.

What do you think? Is being able to eat 12000 calories per day without gaining weight wonderful or a nightmare?

Fame, money and rehab

Is it just me or does it seem like going to drug rehabilitation is the ‘in’ thing to do at the moment in Hollywood? One celebrity after another is going to rehab for various reasons; painkiller addiction, drug addiction, alcoholism, ‘depression’, etc.

I’ve seen with my own eyes how hard it can be to come off a painkiller addiction since my hubby is trying to come of his Oxycontin medication that the doctors prescribed after he lost his fingers. It is really hard without any professional help.

But it kind of makes me wonder… These celebrities seem to have it all; fame, money, anything they desire and yet they somehow screw up and get addicted to the wrong stuff. It’s kind of sad. I wish I had their bankroll though so I could put my hubby in rehab too.

Feeling a bit crook

The last few days I’ve been feeling absolutely crap. My old neck injury is playing up again and that means bad headaches and lots of pain in my neck, shoulders and between my shoulder blades. The headaches have been pretty bad and yesterday it didn’t matter how many pain killers, heat-packs or rest I took it just didn’t want to go away.

This morning I got a bit stubborn. I felt half decent and thought I could work out in the gym. When you exercise your body releases endorphins and I thought it might help a bit  with the headaches. Wrong!!! I felt like puking and my arms and legs were shaking real bad so I gave up and went home.  I had a nice hot shower and I think I’m going to lay down in bed and see if I can get some sleep.
