Passport pictures

I just had my mugshot passport pictures taken and they look horrible! No make up in the world could have saved them. I don’t know what it is with passport pictures and me; it’s a combination that just don’t go too well. I know I am not blessed with supermodel looks, but passport pictures always seem to bring the worst out of me.  Maybe because you are not allowed to smile and you have to look straight into the camera which is something I hate. The photographer tried to console me by saying that they are only passport pictures as if that makes it somehow less worse. Passports are ‘only’ valid for 4 years. The pictures look like mugshots though; the only thing that is missing is the sign with a case number.

Anyway, enough about the pictures. Tomorrow I have to go to the Dutch Consulate to apply for a new passport. Usually you just go to your council and apply for one, but as an expat, alien, foreigner or whatever you want to call me, I have to apply at a consulate in person and fill in a bunch of paperwork. They are only open 2 hours per day and I have to travel for about a hour. I’m lucky though that I live so close to a consulate otherwise I would have had to take a small holiday for it. After I have applied for it it gets processed in either Sydney or Canberra. Because I am not planning on travelling to those cities to pick my passport up I have to include a self-addressed envelop as well. It’s such a hassle!
