WrestleMania XXIV
The biggest event of Wrestling year has come and gone by. I was really excited about Wrestlemania XXIV and had been looking forward to it. But at the end I had to admit that it was fairly predictable (except for the money-in-the-bank ladder match).
I was a bit dissapointed that we didn’t see championship matches for all the titles. For instance the United States Champion, the Intercontinental Champion and one half of the ECW Tag Team Champions were all in the ‘money-in-the-bank’ ladder match. Why did they only put three championships in total on the line? What are champions for if they hardly ever get to defend their title?
Another match I didn’t like was the ‘no holds barred’ match between the Big Show and Floyd Mayweather. First of all the the Big Show has only just come back to the WWE and gets one of the main events in WrestleMania. I’d rather see a wrestler who has worked hard all year around get into a main event. And that match was so hyped up that it could never live up to the expectations. The match was so predictable and it was pretty obvious that every move was scripted. If the Big Show had been allowed to really put his hands on Mayweather he would have ended up in hospital. The match was boring and I was glad when it was over.
The ECW title match was very short and I almost got the idea that it was done on purpose to completely whipe the name of Chris Benoit out of the books. He was the one who held the record of quickest pinfall/submission and we all know that the WWE likes to pretend that he has never excisted.
The Bunny Mania match was not exactly of high quality and again disappointing that the title wasn’t on the line. Would have loved to see two good female wrestlers like Victoria & Beth Phoenix go at it.
You could smell the retirement of Ric Flair from miles away. I have never been a big fan of him, but it is a shame to see him go. He’s build a great legacy and I wish him all the best.
I have to say that I was a little bit surprised to see that Randy Orton was allowed to keep the WWE title. I was certain that it would go to either Triple H or to John Cena. But give it about 3 weeks and I am sure that by then Randy Orton will have to hand over the title a wrestler that sells more merchandise.
The match I was waiting for was the last one; Edge vs. The Undertaker. It was pretty certain that The Undertaker would not lose his match and continued his undefeated WrestleMania streak. The match showed here after midnight and I had trouble keeping my eyes open by then. When the dumb Edgeheads came out I thought “Here we go again!” but fortunately The Undertaker won and is World Heavy Weight Champion again.
All in all I was a little disappointed by the match ups. They should sack the creative team in my opinion. A bit more creativity and more story lines involving ALL the championships would have been so much better. But that is just my opinion. What did you think of WrestleMania? What was your favorite match?
