Do you really need a nip and tuck?
I am one those persons that like real life programs. But one of the programs that totally amazes me are the ‘make over’ programs. Women and sometimes men feel the need to have some nip and tuck done to change their lives for the better. I’ve had plastic surgery when I was 17, so I do know what they go through. I know how a procedure can totally change your life. But fact is that having a cosmetic procedure is not a warranty for a better or happier life.
What really concerns me is that these days getting ’something’ done is getting as normal and as easy as changing the tyres of your car. A friend of mine got liposuction done on her stomach and thighs a couple of months ago and I was absolutely stunned about it. I thought she looked great and didn’t needed it at all. To be honest I didn’t really see a difference afterwards. Unfortunately she wasn’t happy with the result and now she is even thinking about getting something done to her face. I don’t think she is really thinking things through. I think it’s just her insecurity about herself talking and I don’t know if another procedure will make her happy.
What bothers me is that a lot of cosmetic surgeons are giving their customers what they want without going too much into why someone wants to do it, what expectations they have and if it is really needed. I remember that when I went to my GP for a referral he wanted to send me to a psychologist because he thought I was too young. He said that if I still thought the same way when I was a couple of years older he would give me the referral. At that time I was pretty angry about that, but now I can understand his point of view. The only thing was that I didn’t want the surgery because I wanted to look good or had unrealistic expectations, but I wanted to get rid of the pain I was getting. I did end up getting the referral the same day and the surgeon agreed that it was medically necessary for me at that time.
I was reading an interesting article on Times Online where a reporter went to several clinics to get their opinion on whether or not she should get Liposuction and Botox injections. This reporter was only 27 years old and had a healthy weight and BMI. It was interesting to read how easily all the consultants agreed that she needed to get rid of some fat. Not only that, they said that 27 was a good age to start with Botox. Unbelievable!
There was only one clinic that actually asked the right questions. They even tried to talk her out of it and asked her to revisit her expectations. Bravo! Finally a clinic that puts the best interest of their customers first. So, if you are thinking about getting a nip and tuck done, visit www.mya.co.uk. At that clinic you know for sure that you get honest advice.
