Janet Evans is still the greatest
One of my favorite Olympic Gold Medalists is American swimmer Janet Evans. I am not sure if you remember her, but she absolutely smashed her competition in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She won three gold medals on the 400 meter and 800 meter Freestyle and the 400 meter Individual Medley. Four years later at the Olympics in Barcelona she claimed two more medals. The amount of titles she has won over the years is simply amazing!
Not only was I a fan of her because she was so good and dominated her events, but also because she had an unusual freestyle technique. My former swim trainer always compared my swimming style to hers; like a windmill. I took that as a compliment even though it’s not exactly the best technique. But I always say that you don’t have to have a perfect technique to go fast and Janet Evans proved that point.
I can’t wait for the next Olympics to come around and see if any Olympic Athletes are able to break her world record. So far no one has been able to break her 800 meter Freestyle world record time of 8:16.22 that she set on the 20th of August in 1989. That just shows that Janet Evans is still the greatest of all time.
