Does blogging make you fat?

Today I had to hop on the weighting scale at my GP’s practice. I had to see her because I had a blood test done to see if my cholesterol levels were raised. High cholesterol runs in my family, no matter how skinny some of us are. I was shocked to see that I had gained 3 kg and that my cholesterol levels were very high this time. I returned home with medication, the message I needed to lose weight and exercise more.

Not long ago I was going through Google Reader to read the latest posts of my favorite blogs and I came across a post that got my attention immediately. The post was called New study shows blogging causes weight gain and is written by Michelle from Bloggrrl. In the post she talks about the study that was published (in her head), her opinion about it and some great tips to control the weight of bloggers.

Hmmmmm… that made me wonder. Is blogging the reason why I gained those 3 kg in the last couple of months? Thinking back I can explain where the weight gain comes from:

  • Going on holiday to my home country for a month and indulge in all the nice Dutch food (and that was a lot!!!).
  • Not being able to go to the gym due to a neck injury. I used to work out 6 days a week for at least 2 hours per day, now it is reduced to a little bit of bike riding.
  • Not being able to swim; the swimming pool is closed because it is winter (I live in Australia).
  • Not having a regular eating pattern.

Although I do think that maybe I spend a little too much time behind the computer I don’t think that blogging makes me fat. In fact I don’t think blogging makes anyone fat! It’s just a combination of not eating healthy and not getting enough exercise.

What do you think? Can blogging have a negative effect on your weight?

With school and blogging I have to find time to work out at least 4 times a week to feel good about my self! great post :)

Working out 4 times a week is pretty good, especially if you still go to school. We all know how time consuming that can be with assignments etc. I think people just have to make time to exercise. I know I will work out a bit more now even though I can’t do too much with my neck at the moment. I am aiming for at least 30 minutes a day.
