A free blog or your own domain?

Nowadays it seems like almost everyone has a blog. Blogs are so easy to start up and maintain that even a 5 year old can run one independently. With the free blogger and wordpress platforms you can start a blog and it doesn’t even cost you one cent. But when you are serious about making money from your blog, it is probably a better idea to run your blog on your own domain.

Running your blog on your own domain has several benefits:

  • Your own domain name looks better; instead of makingmoneyonline.blogspot.com your domain can look like makingmoneyonline.com.
  • Your domain name is easier to remember without a .wordpress.com or .blogspot.com extension.
  • You can choose which blog platform to run on your own domain.
  • If you install wordpress on your own domain you can add several cool WP plugins.
  • Your own domain looks more professional.
  • With your own domain you have full control over your blog.
  • Your own domain is more appealing to advertisers.

The reasons why you should run your blog on your own domain far out weight the reasons why you should stick with a free blog. Read more about this at FreeCashQuest.

I’m still surprised though how many ‘professional’ blogs I actually come across using blogspot or wordpress.
but yeah.. I’m all for own domain as well.

I think the only thing that is hindering so many bloggers from getting their own domain is the myth that it is expensive.

These days, a domain costs less than USD 10 (e.g. GoDaddy) and bloggers can point it to their free blog (Blogger or WordPress.com)!
