Have you upgraded your wordpress?
Have you upgraded your wordpress to the latest version yet? I just did mine and I am happy to say that things went very smooth! I’ve updated one of my other blogs manually, but now there is a fantastic wordpress plugin that does the whole process automatically.
All you have to do is download the plugin, active it, go to your ‘wordpress automatic upgrade’ page under ‘manage’ and click on automated version.
Now would be a good time to upgrade your wordpress if you haven’t done so, because the makers of this great blogging software have just released a new security update.
“Today we have two security-related releases available for both users of our main 2.2 branch and the legacy 2.0 branch. As these releases include only security and minor bugfixes they should not cause any plugin or theme compatibility issues, so you have no good excuse not to upgrade.”
The Wordpress Automatic Upgrade Plugin is a free plugin that can be found at Techie Buzz. This is what the plugin does for you:
- Backs up the files and makes available a link to download it.
- Backs up the database and makes available a link to download it.
- Downloads the latest files from http://wordpress.org/latest.zip and unzips it.
- Puts the site in maintenance mode.
- De-activates all active plugins and remembers it.
- Upgrades wordpress files.
- Gives you a link that will open in a new window to upgrade installation.
- Re-activates the plugins
I have used the automated version. If you use the automated mode you do not have to click on any links to go the next step.
You can download the WPAU Plugin here.
There you go, no more excuses to NOT upgrade your wordpress!

ok, i tried it….and it worked (sort of). For some reason the automated version got stuck on reactivating all the plugins so I had to go in and reactivate manually.
I think everything is working ok again. The important thing is, according to my Dashboard, I’m now on Version 2.2.2
Thanks again for the info!
