Sandra, just wanted to note that this was misleading: back links to your site are very important for PR. PageRank is actually only a measure of the links to your site, so back links are the only thing that build PR. They’re not just a component.
PageRank, on the other hand, is just one of more than 100 variables that Google looks at when ranking a page for any particular search term.

Thank you for your comment. You are pointing out that there is a difference between Page Rank and ranking in the search engines. You are right, I have edited the post!
